After an ill start for films in 2013, Disney's new Oz came just in time to bring new hope to the box office. Although there was some speculation as to whether a prequel to the classic 1939 "The Wizard of Oz" was the wrong move by Disney. The huge fan-base the original Oz has build up, had some big fans cringing as to whether this new Oz would live up to its name, but it proved to be a big hit among audience around the globe. Starring James Franco, Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz, and Michelle Williams, "Oz the Great and Powerful" dominated the box office taking out other big contenders.
It earn $80.5 million in the U.S. and Canada and $69.9 million overseas for a total of $150 million combined, beating other films like "Jack the Giant Slayer", "Identity Thief", and "Dead Man Down"
Oz the Great and Powerful tells the story of Oz (James Franco), a magician who gets blown away in a hot air balloon into a magical land where he is mistaken for a wizard and has to choose whether to be the great man this land has been waiting for.
