10 Kim Kardashian


One of the most popular faces today, Kimberly Noel Kardashian, born Oct. 21, 1980, has also graced the pages of Playboy, posing nude for the magazine’s December 2007 issue. Best-known as a reality TV star and model, she also gained notoriety with the release of her sex tape. She gained even more notoriety when she was briefly married to basketball player Kris Humphries for only over two months in what was called more of a publicity stunt than an actual marriage. Despite her controversies, she remains one of the most bankable stars in the US today.


9 Farrah Fawcett


Best known for her role as Jill Munroe in the first series of Charlie’s Angels in 1976, Farrah Leni Fawcett, was born in Feb. 24, 1947.She spent the rest of the 80’s and 90’s acting in TV and movies and only first appeared in Playboy in a semi-nude pictorial in 1995. She reappeared in the magazine for a photo shoot in July 1997 at the age of 50. Both issues of the magazine were top sellers. She was diagnosed with cancer late in 2006 and began a well-document battle against the dreaded disease. In May 2009 she was reported critically ill and often bedridden and unconscious. Her condition worsened and she died on June 25, 2009.After her death, she was posthumously nominated for an Emmy for her cancer documentary; it was her fourth.


8 Jayne Mansfield


Born in Apr. 19, 1933,Jayne Mansfield started her career to fame as a nightclub singer before rising to stardom in the early 50’s.She appeared in Playboy for the February 1955 issue and went on to stay as a sex symbol through the rest of the decade and the early 60’s. Fond of mischief and publicity stunts, she eventually paid the price for overexposure and was relegated to the backroom of Hollywood stars. She was killed in a car accident in June 29, 1967 after her car ploughed into the back of tractor trailer. Her death led to the redesign of tractor trailers to include a protective steel tubing, sometimes referred to as an ICC bar and also the Mansfield Bar.


7 Dorothy Stratten


Dorothy Ruth Hoogstraten, born February 28, 1960, was Playboy playmate for the August 1979 issue and was also chosen for Playmate of the Year in 1980. She had already acted for television before posing for the magazine and was being considered for more roles when she was murdered by her husband Paul Snider on Aug. 14, 1980 after she allegedly decided to break it off with him. Ironically with this playmate it was her death that catapulted her name into even more fame.


6 Carmen Electra


Born in Apr. 20, 1972, Tara Leigh Patrick started out as a dancer at Kings Island Amusement Park in Mason, Ohio. She only took the name Carmen Electra during a short-lived singing career with Paisley Park Records after moving to California in 1990.

She started appearing on TV in 1995 and finally posed for Playboy in May 1996. She would be featured in Playboy four more times and also continue appearing in TV and movies including Scary Movie (2000), My Boss’s Daughter (2003), Starsky and Hutch (2004) and Meet the Spartans (2008). Away from the acting, she supports several charities including Elevate Hope, which helps abused and abandoned children; and the Hollyrod Foundation for those suffering from degenerative motor diseases.


5 Kelly Monaco


Like Carmen Electra, Kelly Marie Monaco, born May 23, 1976, also starred in Baywatch.She posed for Playboy in April 1997 and also appeared in many Playboy publications. After her first appearance in the magazine she got into more acting roles, also landing minor movie roles in Mumford and Idle Hands, both released in1999. She also appeared in the TV series Spin City, Port Charles and General Hospital. In 2003 she was nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her role in Port Charles and in 2006 for the outstanding lead actress award for her role in General Hospital. She continues to appear in the series.

The “Notorious Bettie Page” was also one of the earliest playmates to appear in the magazine.Miss January 1955 was born on Apr. 22, 1923. Her life took a strange turn after posing for the magazine when in 1959 she converted to Christianity and worked for Pastor Billy Graham. The rest of her life would be marked by depression, violent mood swings and she would also spend several years in a psychiatric hospital. On Dec. 6, 2008 she was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Whether it was a heart attack or pneumonia, none of her family members would confirm. What they did confirm was that she had eventually fell into a coma and her family decided to have her taken off life support and she died on Dec. 11, 2008. One of her most prominent features during the height of her fame, her bangs, would become a fashion statement that is still en vogue today.


3 Pamela Anderson


Canadian actress and model Pamela Denise Anderson was born in July 1, 1967. She posed for Playboy in 1989 and was chosen Playmate of the Year. After gaining fame for her photos she ventured into acting and appeared in several TV series such as Baywatch and Home Improvement.She was also briefly married to Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee but that ended in a nasty divorce.  They would eventually remarry and then separate a number of times before calling it quits in 1998. In her spare time she actively campaigns for PETA and is a staunch advocate of vegetarianism. Her record as the most Playboy playmate with the most appearances in the magazine (from 1989 to 2011) and also with the most appearances on the cover of the magazine still stands.


2 Anna Nicole Smith


Born Vickie Lynn Marshall in Nov. 28, 1967, she first gained popularity after posing for Playboy in 1993 and being chosen as Playmate of the Year. She would later become a famous fashion model for many clothing companies like Lane Bryant and Guess jeans. Her life was filled with controversy ever since being thrust into the limelight, most notable of which was her marriage to oil mogul J. Howard Marshall who was 62 years older than she was. After his death she battled with his family for her share of his estate. She was found dead on Feb. 8, 2007 in a hotel after overdosing on prescription drugs. She had just been thrust into the limelight again,following the death of her son Daniel and the paternity and custody over he daughter Dannielynn.


1 Marilyn Monroe


The magazine’s very first playmate is still the no. 1 sexiest playmate of all time, the best of the original blonde bombshells, none other than Marilyn Monroe.Born Norma Jean Mortenson in June 1, 1926 she began her career in acting, modeling and singing before finally posing for Playboy’s first-ever issue in December 1953.In an act that could be considered scandalous for her time she admitted it was really her naked in the photos. A doubting reporter asked her what she was really wearing at the time of the photo shoot and she wittily replied “Chanel No. 5.” After posing for playboy she continued doing movies and even did shows for US soldiers fighting in the Korean War. On Aug. 5, 1962 she was found dead in her home in Brentwood, Los Angeles. She was 36 years old and currently in negotiation for more movies. Her death was determined as a barbiturate overdose.
