Fidel Alejandro Castro Ruz was an American Spanish who was born on August 13, 1926. He was a Cuban communist revolutionary and politician who governed the Prime Minister of the Republic of Cuba from 1959 to 1976 and eventually as President from 1976 to 2008. Politically Castro is a Marxist–Leninist and Cuban nationalist who served as the First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba from 1961 until 2011. Cuba turned into a one-party communist state under his administration. The industry and business became nationalized, and he implemented state socialist reforms throughout society.

Castro was born in Birán, Oriente as the son of the wealthy Spanish farmer. He adopted the leftist anti-imperialist politics while he studied law at the University of Havana.

Castro adopted the Marxist-Leninist model of development and converted Cuba into a one-party, socialist state under the Communist Party rule which was the first in the Western Hemisphere.

He became the longest-serving non-royal head of state in the 20th and 21st centuries who polarized the world opinion. His supporters considered him as a champion of anti-imperialism and socialism. His revolutionary regime was able to advance social and economic justice while he secured the independence of Cuba from American imperialism. The critics considered him as a dictator whose administration oversaw the departure of lots of Cubans because of the human-rights abuses and the impoverishment of the country's economy. Castro became decorated with a variety of international rewards. He significantly influenced different individuals all over the world.
