One of Britain's leading independent suppliers of software and IT services, PCMS was founded in 1982 by former computer programmer Richard Smith, 62. With his 64-year-old wife, Brenda, he runs and owns the Coventry-based business, whose clients generally operate in the retail and food service industries and whose partners include Microsoft, Symantec and IBM. Its Cincinnati operations account for 30% of turnover and there is a software distribution network covering Europe and the Pacific Rim. PCMS made an £8m profit on sales of £40.2m sales in 2010. With net assets of £32m, it is worth £80m. Other assets add £9m to the Smiths' wealth.
