A generous donor to charities, Somers, is the widow of Nat Somers, a Jersey-based tycoon whose twin passions, flying, and business, made his fortune. He first learnt to fly in 1936 and later bought airports, selling Southampton airport for £50m in 1988. He also made numerous property deals.
