Born in 1924, Marguerite Jones Harbert is the wife of the construction magnate who founded Harbert Corporation. The company was once considered as the world's largest construction companies. However, in early 1990's, the company's construction arm was sold to Raytheon Engineers & Constructors which was then based at Birmingham. Shortly, the largest arm of the corporation, its international construction arm Harbert International was purchased by John Harbert's brother, Bill L. Albert.

In 1993, the investment management firm Harbert Management Corporation was established. Through the years, the firm evolved into one of the most successful money management firm in the world with over $20.3 billion worth of assets under its management. Based in Birmingham Alabama, the firm also operates in Nashville TN, Warsaw, London, Paris, Madrid, Melbourne, San Francisco, Richmond VA and New York City.
