Prior to becoming Mrs. Axel Springer, Friede worked as a nanny for her future husband's family. Later on, she became his lover then wife, until Axel Springer's death in 1985. After his death, Friede and Axel's children and grandchildren inherited his shares in a publishing trust. During that time, Springer holds 26.1% of the total stocks. Subsequently, Friede became Springer Holding's sole executive manager and Axel Springer AG's manager.
