Jason Calacanis is an Internet entrepreneur and blogger with an estimated net worth of $20 million. He was born Jason McCabe Calacanis on November 28, 1970 in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, New York. He went to Xaverian High School and graduated in 1988. He then attended Fordham University with a major in psychology.

Calacanis began his career as the founder and CEO of Rising Tide Studios, a media company that published print and online publications such as Silicon Alley Reporter and Digital Coast Reporter. Its flagship publication later became Venture Reporter, a venture capital database which was sold to Dow Jones.

Mr. Calacanis earned his biggest success with Weblogs, Inc. which he co-founded with Brian Alvey in September 24, 2003. It was supported by an angel investment from Mark Cuban. It was later sold to AOL in 2005 for an estimated amount between $25 and $30 million.

Six months after, Jason Calacanis was offered to be the general manager of the new Netscape website. On November 16, 2006, TechCrunch reported that he resigned from Weblogs and Netscape which he later confirmed with a blog post. He was then given the role of “Entrepreneur in Action” at Sequoia Capital since December 5, 2006 until May 2007. He founded Mahalo.com, a “human-powered search engine” which raised $20 million in venture capital from well-known investors such as Sequoia Capital, News Corp, CBS, Cuban, and Elon Musk.

Calacanis also founded TheWeekIn.com and is the host of This Week In Startups which is part of LAUNCH Media. He is also the CEO of Inside.com.
