Markus Persson began programming at the age of seven. At age of eight, he created a text-based adventure game using various text-in programs. He started worked for King.com in 2004. Afterwards, he also joined Jalbum, a photo gallery creation software company.

He was involved in developing popular video games such as Minecraft, Scrolls, and Breaking the Tower, among others. Persson was one of the Mojang founders which was formed in late 2010. He left the company in 2014 after Mojang acquired by Microsoft.
