Ted Leonsis is a sports team owner, venture capital investor, filmmaker, author and philanthropist with an estimated net worth of $1 billion. Born to a Greek-American family in Brooklyn, New York on January 8, 1957, Theodore John Leonsis is a 1977 graduate of Georgetown University. His professional career began at Wang Laboratories in Lowell, Massachusetts.

Mr. Leonsis is best known as a pioneer in the internet industry. He was instrumental in turning AOL (formerly America Online) into a global phenomenon. In 1994, his early new media company, Redgate Communications, was acquired by America Online and he became a senior AOL executive for the next 13 years. Ted Leonsis is the founder, chairman, majority owner and Chief Executive Officer of Monumental Sports & Entertainment. He owns and operates the Washington Capitals in the NHL, Washington Wizards in the NBA, Washington Mystics in the WNBA and the Verizon Center in Washington, DC. As a venture capital investor, he has made several investments on his own as well as a partner in the newly-created “speed-up capital” Revolution Growth Fund II.

Leonsis is also an acknowledge producer of documentaries. He is the founder, chairman and the largest shareholder of SnagFilms. He has created and produced the award-winning documentary Nanking (2007), Kicking It (2008) and Fighting Chance (2010). He is also the author of The Business of Happiness.
