Egremont, 63, is responsible for the upkeep of the magnificent Petworth estate in Sussex. Crippling death duties have hit the Egremont family hard three times since the war and as a result, Petworth House has been in the hands of the National Trust since 1947. Petworth boasts one of the finest art collections in Britain. Much of the collection is owned by the National Trust but some pictures are still in family hands. The family also has acreage around Petworth. There is little liquid wealth in the family: the Egremont Charitable Trust made a £6,500 loss on £14,900 sales in 2008-09.The Sunday Times Rich List valued the family assets at £48m.
