About David and Frederick Barclay
David and Frederick Barclay have a combined estimated net worth of $3.3 Billion. Hotels are preoccupying the thoughts of the Barclay twins. In July 2010, they sold their stake in the InterContinental chain for £330m. In January, they acquired a 24.8% stake in the Maybourne Hotel group from Peter Green for £75m. Sir David, pictured, and Sir Frederick followed this by buying the debt relating to one of the shareholders, Derek Quinlan, which gives them control of a group that includes the Berkeley, the Connaught and Claridge’s in London. The 76-year-olds also own the Ritz. The once low-key Barclays have become more prominent in British business since their £665m purchase of the Telegraph Group in 2004. Although their main operations in media, property, hotels and retailing have had mixed fortunes, there are net assets of more than £2.05 billion in their four main companies.
