Zygmunt Wilf was born on April 22, 1950 in Germany. He was born to a father who is a well-known real estate developer in the country. In 1971, Wilf completed his bachelor's degree in economics from Fairleigh Dickinson University. He is also a graduate of Manhattan's New York Law School.

For a while, Zygi Wilf worked as an attorney. Eventually, he joined the family business and later headed the Garden Commercial Properties. From four shopping centers, he has grown the company into more than a hundred real estate properties which include a couple of large malls. The company also owns and manages more than 90,000 apartment units in Germany. Together with his five partners, they acquired the Minnesota Vikings for $600 million in 2005.
