The Korean decent is chairman of copper miner Kazakhmys and oversaw secondary listing of Kazakhmys in Hong Kong in June 2011. A descendent of Koreans forced by Stalin to move to Kazakhstan, Kim joined Kazakhmys during Khazakstan’s early 1990s privatization wave. He served as member of Kazakh President Nazarbayev’s political council. He is currently the 314th richest person in the world.
