Mr. Funai has earned a bulk of his estimated net worth of $750 million through his Japanese consumer electronics company. It is an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) that provides assembled home entertainment products such as DVD players, televisions, and Blu-ray disc recorders. Among its customers are major corporations like Sharp, Toshiba, and Denon. It also manufactures printers for Dell and Lexmark. It is the main supplier of electronics to Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club stores.

Tetsuro Funai served as the company’s Chief Executive Officer and President until June 2008. Recently, he saw his fortune fall due to the decline in the sales of the company’s entertainment products. Its stock price also fell by more than 30% for the second straight year. In January, he bought out the consumer electronics business of long-time partner Philips for $202 million.
