Indian Philanthropist and telecom mogul Sunil Mittal has an estimated net worth of $6.1 billion as of March 2016, according to Forbes. Mittal is the current group CEO, founder and Chairman of Bharti Enterprises which is considered as the largest GSM-based mobile phone service provider in India. The company is regarded as the fifth largest wireless company in the world with more than 190 million active users across 19 countries in Africa and Asia.

At age 18, Sunil Mittal started his first business which involved creating crankshafts for the local manufacturers of bicycle. Four years later, Sunil and his brother engaged in an import enterprise which they named Bharti Overseas Trading Company. It was in 1984 when he began assembling push-button phones in the country. Bharti Telecom Limited (BTL) tied up with Germany's Siemens AG in order to manufacture electronic push button phones. Later on, Sunil began manufacturing cordless phones, telecom gears and fax machines. Through the years, Sunil Mittal emerged to be one of the most successful personalities in the world of telecommunications. In 2012, he was reported to be negotiating with the owners of Wal-Mart, a retail giant in the U.S., to start establishing a few retail stores in India.

Sunil Mittal is a recipient of Padma Bhushan which is considered as the third highest civilian honor in India. He was born on October 23, 1957 in Ludhiana, Punjab, India. He attended Punjab University. He currently resides in South Delhi, India with his wife Nyna Mittal. Sunnil Mittal has three children named Shravin, Kavin and Eiesha.
