About Sergei Sarkisov
Sergei Sarkisov is the Chairman of the Board of RESO-Garantiya who has an estimated net worth of $1.35 billion as of March 2013. He is also the 74th richest person in Russia and 1988th in the Forbes Billionaires list.
Mr. Sarkisov has accumulated his estimated net worth of $1.35 billion when he started working at the Soviet state insurance firm, Ingosstrakh. He then went on to found his own firm, RESO-Garantiya, in 1991 and is now one of the most successfully growing companies in the Russian market.
In 2007, Sergei Sarkisov sold a 37% stake in RESO-Garantiya for $1.2 billion to French insurance giant, AXA. This is one record sum for a Russian insurer. AXA had an opportunity to buy a controlling interest in the firm but later opted out.
Sarkisov has retained a control of the company and is currently expanding its business in Russia. He and his billionaire brother, Nikolai, are still its largest investors. In 2011, he bought a 25% stake in Insurance House VSK, the sixth largest insurer in Russia. He states that he is planning to buy the Soglasie, the seventh largest insurer, and later merge them.
