Mike Ashley has an estimated net worth of $3 billion.
Ashley was delighted with the way Newcastle United won promotion back to the Premier League after one season in the Championship. Having paid £134m to gain control of the club in 2007, putting in £258m all-told, he is still keen to find a buyer, as he has a difficult relationship with the Magpies' fans. Hertfordshire-based Ashley pocketed £929m when he floated Sports Direct in 2007 while keeping control of the business. Its shares initially dropped sharply but are now recovering, valuing Ashley's stake at £812m. His other assets include the proceeds of property deals and dividends.
