While still alive, Lansky oversaw a gambling empire that operated in Saratoga, Miami, New York, Iowa, Cuba and Las Vegas. He was also reported to have some sort of influence over the Italian Mafia and he plays a crucial role in the consolidation of underworld criminals.

When his prime years ended, Meyer Lansky opted to maintain a low-profile in Miami Beach. He was often seen walking his dog and he is dressed like an average grandfather. Nonetheless, he continued meeting his associate in crowded places like malls.

In January 1983, Meyer Lansky died due to lung cancer. Papers say that he cost almost next to nothing at the time of his death but the FBI suspected that he left around $300 million on his hidden bank accounts. But of course, their suspicion was never proven. Meyer Lansky was survived by his wife Teddy and their three children named Buddy, Paul and Sandra.
