American billionaire, businessman and hedge fund manager Marc Lasry has an estimated net worth of $1.69 billion as of May 2016 according to Forbes. He is one of the founders of  Avenue Capital Group where he currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer.

Of Jewish Moroccan ancestry, Marc Lasry's family immigrated to the U.S. when he was seven years old. Growing up in West Hartford, Connecticut, Marc Lasry attended Clark University where he finished his BA in History in 1981 and in 1984, he received his J.D. from New York Law School. Together with his sister Sonia Gardner, Marc Lasry founded Amroc Investments in 1989 and Avenue Capital Group in 1995.

After leaving Angel & Frankel, he started working for R.D. Smith which is now known as Smith Vasillou Management, as the company's director of the private debt department. He then worked for Cowen & Company as Co-Director of the Bankruptcy and Corporate reorganization Department.

After leaving Robert M. Bass Group, he co-founded Amroc Investments, a distressed debt brokerage in 1989. With $7 million capital, the siblings also founded Avenue Capital Group in 1995. Through the years, they were able to expand the group's operation in Asia and Europe.
