Irish businessman and racehorse owner,JP McManus’s stakes in Barchester Healthcare, and the Sandy Lane hotel in Barbados are worth about $1 billion. He owns them with John Magnier and Dermot Desmond. With Magnier and Aidan Brooks, he has built a global property portfolio worth £1 billion before borrowings, giving it little current value.

Family trusts of McManus and Magnier have a £228m slice of Mitchells Butlers, the pub group. The former bookie has £34m assets in other investments, from playing world markets. McManus owns more than 100 horses and has a £17m mansion in Limerick. He has raised at least £48m for charity.
