After working as a sales engineer at the Massachusetts-based LFE Corporation and Marketing Manager at the Applied Geodata Systems Division of Techven Associates which is also based in Massachusetts, Jim Davis bought the New Balance which was then a 6-employee organization based in Boston. Today, the company hires more than 4,000 employees.
He served as a board member of the Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association. He is one of the members of the Board of Trustees of the Sports Museum of New England. He is also one of the members of the executive committee of the association of rubber and plastic footwear manufacturers.
Originally, the New Balance brand maintains its philosophy which is "the brand endorsed by no one" but today, it is endorsed by Heidi Klum. It also became the official footwear in the 2011 season.
