Hugh Hefner left behind a fortune that is estimated to be around $50 million. Hefner's wealth decreased significantly after Playboy’s stock lost over 80% of its value. Many people assume Hugh is the owner of the famous Playboy mansion, when in fact, he is not. Playboy owns the house and Hugh only pays an annual rent to cover his expenses including his girlfriend’s.
Hugh Hefner founded his famous Playboy Magazine in 1953. It was a lifestyle publication that tackled about concupiscence and sex during the time when such topics were not openly discussed in public.
Its first issue featured the famous photo of Marilyn Monroe which made it an instant blockbuster on the market. Through the years, Playboy has earned a reputation because of its in-depth interviews with celebrities, high-quality contents, and controversial naked photos of beautiful women. In 2005, he appeared in the series The Girls Next Door which put the lives of Hefner’s three live-in girlfriends, Holly Madison, Kendra Wilkinson, and Bridget Marquardt under controversies. In 2010, these three were replaced by new ones.
He had two failed marriages. His marriage to Mildred Williams in 1949 lasted until 1959. The couple had two children named Christie who was born in 1952 and David, born in 1955. After three decades, he married Playboy’s “Playmate of the Year”, Kimberly Conrad. The union resulted in the birth of their two sons, Marston (born in 1990) and Cooper (born in 1991). In 2010, the couple's divorce was granted.
On December 25, 2010, Hefner’s engagement to one of his girlfriends, Crystal Harris, was announced. She was Miss December 2009 of Playboy magazine. Just five days before their scheduled wedding, she broke off their engagement. In 2012, the couple reconciled and they got married in December 2012. In 1949, Hugh Hefner graduated with a degree in Psychology from the University of Illinois.
On September 27, 2017, Hugh Hefner died of natural causes at age 91.
