After the end of World War II in 1945, Yamauchi went to Waseda University where he took a degree in law. He is currently married to Michiko Inaba with whom he has three children named Yoko, Fujiko and Katsuhito.
In 1949, he had to leave Waseda University to start working for Nintendo after his grandfather, who served as the company’s president that time, suffered from a stroke. He immediately assumed the position which his grandfather left. Due to his inadequate management experience plus his young age, he only earned resentment and disrespect from his employees. To resolve the situation, he fired everyone who questioned his authority, even the long-time employees. He then changed the name of the company to Nintendo Karuta and through the years, the company has significantly succeed.
