Gary Magness is a dropout of Western State College of Colorado. He currently lives in his hometown, Denver Colorado, with his wife Sarah Siegel-Magness, and their three children. He is the son of Tele-Communications Inc.'s founder Bob Magness. He is one of the large stockholders of Tele-Communications Inc after he inherited his father's shares.

Together with his wife Sarah, he founded Smokewood Entertainment in 2007. Currently, he sits as the Chairman of the Board of Magness Investment Group, whose portfolio includes companies like Magness Land & Cattle, Aquaculture Breeding Farms, Fortrust and state-of-the-art data center based in Denver.
