Spanish businessman Gabriel Escarrer has an estimated net worth of $1.65 billion as of May 2016 according to Forbes. Most of Escarrer's net worth is derived from his massive investments in numerous hotels.

At age 21, Gabriel Escarrer had already opened his first hotel in Palma de Majorca, the Altair. Today, he is the owner of Melia Hotels International which now has over 350 resorts and hotels in 35 countries. Melia Hotels International is earning a revenue amounting to $1.8 billion. It is now considered as the largest hotel chain in Spain and one of the largest in the world. By 2015, Escarrer plans to open 500 more hotels. In 2012, Gabriel Escarrer signed a deal with Microsoft that would develop state of the art technology in hotel rooms later on.

Currently based in Spain, Escarrer is married with six children. His two sons help him in running the business. He is a recipient of the United Nations World Tourism Organization inaugural Lifetime Achievement.
