Fernando Roberto Moreira Salles is a member of one of Brazil's oldest banking families. It was in 2008 when Unibanco, a family owned bank, merged with Banco Itau. Today, he serves as a board member and one of the largest stakeholders in Itau Unibanco Holding SA which is considered as the second largest bank institution in Brazil.

Fernando Roberto Moreira Salles is the half brother of Pedro Moreira Salles, João Moreira Salles and Walther Moreira Salles Jr.. He was born to Hélène Marie Blanche Tourtois, the first wife of the diplomat and banker Walther Moreira Salles.
