Indonesian entrepreneur Djoko Susanto has an estimated net worth of $1.31 billion as of April 2016 according to Forbes. He is known to be the owner of the retail business, Alfamart, which currently has 6,000 minimarts across Indonesia. It was in 2011 when he officially joined Forbes' list of billionaires.

Of Chinese ancestry, Susanto was born in 1950 in Indonesia. A high school dropout, Djoko Susanto is currently married with five children. After spending a year in high school, he started managing his parent's 560-foot stall set in a traditional market in Jakarta. Eventually, he started selling cigarettes and as time passed by, he was able to open more stores. Along with Putera Sampoerna, a clove cigarette tycoon, they launched a discount supermarket chain.

The two were partners until 2005 when Putera Sampoerna decided to sell his shares to Altria which later sold it to Northstar. Eventually, Susanto bought the shares from Northstar. By buying the shares originally owned by Sampoerna, Susanto became the largest shareholder in the company. Through time, he was able to develop the business into Alfa Supermarket which operates under several brands like Alfa Midi, Lawson, Alfa Express and Alfa Mart. In 2011, he was the 25th wealthiest man in Indonesia. A year later, he was named by Forbes as Indonesia's 20th richest man.
