Born to Abby Aldrich Rockefeller and John D. Rockefeller, Jr., David Rockefeller’s other siblings were Nelson, Laurance, Winthrop, John D. III and Abby. He is also the only surviving grandchild of John D. Rockefeller, a well-known oil tycoon who founded the Standard Oil.

After graduating from Harvard University as Cum Laude, Rockefeller went on to study at London School of Economics, then to the University of Chicago where he finished his Ph.D. in Economics.

In 1946, he officially joined Chase National Bank which was later known as Chase Manhattan Bank. Through time, the institution significantly changed into consumer banking and today, it is known as JP Morgan Chase.

Starting as an assistant manager at the Foreign Department, David Rockefeller worked his way up the ladder until he became the company’s president in 1960. From 1961 through 1980, he served as the bank’s Chief executive and Chairman of the Board.

David Rockefeller was married to Margaret “Peggy” McGrath until the latter’s death in 1996. Their 55-year marriage resulted to the birth of their six children named David Jr. (b. 1941), Abby (b. 1943), Neva (b. 1944), Peggy (b. 1947), Richard (b. 1949), and Eileen (b. 1952).
