Dan L. Duncan was born on January 2, 1933 in Shelby County, Texas. After graduating from Massey Business College in Houston, he eventually landed a job at the midstream pipeline company, Wanda Petroleum. Eleven years later, he left the company, and established his Enterprise Products Co. with two propane delivery trucks, and $10,000 only.

In 1998, the company went public, and by 2010, Enterprise Products Co. already owned more than 48,700 miles of offshore and onshore pipelines. With an estimated net worth of $8.2 billion dollars in 2007, Dan Duncan was considered as Houston’s richest man, and third richest in the whole of Texas that year.

He was married to Jan Ellis. He has four children named Randa, Milane, Dannine, and Scott, who are now considered as millionaires. Prior to his death, Dan Duncan was known as a philanthropist. In fact, he has donated $135 million to Baylor College of Medicine, and $75 million to the Houston Museum of Natural Science and the Texas Children’s Hospital. At age 77, Dan Duncan died of cerebral hemorrhage on March 28, 2010. At the time of his death, his net worth was valued by Forbes at $9.8 billion.
