Aras Agalarov was born on November 8, 1955 in Baku Azerbaijan. He is an alumnus of Azerbaijan Polytechnical Institute. He is currently married with two children. Emin, his eldest son, is a singer, songwriter and businessman who is currently married to Leyla Aliyeva, the daughter of Ilkham Aliyev who currently serves as the president of Azerbaijan.

In 1998, Agalarov's family moved to Moscow, and there, he launched Crocus International which specialized on trade fairs which made him a lot of money. The opening of his first Crocus Inter store led to Agalarov to engage into real estate and property development.
