Born Andrei Yuryevich Molchanov on September 24, 1971 in Leningard, Saint Petersburg, Russia, he earned his bachelor’s degree from St. Petersburg State University in 1993. He took a Masters of Public Administration at the Russian State Academy of Management and graduated in 1998.

Molchanov began accumulating his estimated net worth of $1.65 billion when he and his classmate started a residential construction business. He also founded in 1993 and became the president of Open Joint Stock Company LSR (Lenstroireconstruktsiya) Group. He is also the largest shareholder in the firm.
