William Shannon Lerach is a famous American lawyer who specialized on private securities class action lawsuits in 30 years of his career as an attorney. He currently has a net worth of $900 million. Throughout his legal career, Lerach has recovered around $45 billion for the defrauded shareholders. Around 75% of all his class action lawsuits were filed against directors and corporate officers of the largest corporations in the UK due for stock fraud, insider trading and stock manipulation charges.
He was involved in many controversial cases involving large companies and popular personalities such as Disney, Enron, Goldman Sachs, WorldCom, Credit Suisse First Boston, Apple Computer, RJ Reynolds, Drexel Burnham, Citibank, and AOL Time Warner.
However, in 2007, he served a two-year prison sentence, after pleading guilty of obstruction of justice. In 2009, he was disbarred.
