American software industry entrepreneur Ray Ozzie has an estimated net worth of $650 million. He is best known for his positions at Microsoft. He served as the Chief Technical Officer and Chief Software Architect from 2005 to 2010. He is the founder of Irish Associates which helped create the Lotus Notes. It was an application which was later bought by IBM Software Group and was sold around the world.
Raymond Ozzie was born on November 20, 1955 in Chicago, Illinois. He later moved to Parkridge, Illinois and graduated from Maine South High School in 1973. While at school, he learned to program on a GE-400 mainframe while doing technical work on school theater productions.
In 1979, Mr. Ozzie received his bachelor’s degree in computer science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where he worked on the PLATO system. He then began his professional career at Data General Corporation where he worked for Jonathan Sachs. He has worked at Software Arts for Dan Bricklin and Bob Frankston, the creators of VisiCalc.
Ray Ozzie then went to Lotus Development to work on Lotus Symphony but left the firm in 1984. He then founded Iris Associates to create Lotus Notes which was sold by Lotus. His firm was acquired by Lotus in 1994 which was also acquired by IBM in 1995. After several years of working in the company, he left to form Groove Networks which was acquired by Microsoft in 2005.
