At 56, Immelt is the Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of General Electronics (GE) Company after replacing Jack Welch in 2000. He has been with GE corporate marketing since 1982. At GE Plastics, he held several positions in different fields that included sales, marketing and global product development.
