Born Selena Marie Gomez on July 22, 1992 in Grand Prairie, Tarrant, Texas, she began her career as a child actress, with in minor roles in several television shows. She was discovered during a nationwide talent search in 2004, which jumpstarted her acting career. She began in the children show Barney and Friends, where she portrayed the role of Gianna. Gomez is also known for playing Alex Russo in the Disney Channel Emmy Award-winning television series Wizards of Waverly Place.
