About Regina Spektor
Regina Spektor is a Russian singer, pianist and songwriter. Her estimated net worth is $12 million.
She was born on February 18, 1980 in Moscow, Russia to a Jewish family. Her father was a professional photographer and amateur violinist, while her mother worked as a music teacher in a local conservatory, so she grew up surrounded by music.
They both fostered their talents on Regina, primarily through the piano lessons her mother taught her on an old Petrof piano. By the time she was 7, she inherited the family’s piano and started attending a conservatory to further improve her skills.
Her family emigrated to America in 1989—due to anti-Semitism—during the Perestroika, when the Russian citizens where allowed to leave the country. She was 9 years old when she arrived and was admitted as a refugee alongside her family, she didn’t speak a word of English by then. Interestingly enough, she later confessed not to have been traumatized by the exile as was the norm amongst other refugees.
During he teenage years she experimented with several musical styles such as pop and jazz. She was close friends and sometimes performed the opening act for “The Strokes” and has been performing as an acclaimed solo artist since then.
She’s published several albums during her career, such as: “11:11”, “Songs”, “What We Saw from the Cheap Sets”, and “Begin to Hope”.
