His first solo debut album Legalize It was released in 1976 under the CBS Recording Company. It became popular to Rastafarians, people who love reggae music and those who promote the legalization of marijuana. In subsequent years, Tosh's career has boomed significantly that he was able to release his other albums which include Equal Rights, Bush Doctor, Mystic Man, Wanted Dread and Alive, Mama Africa and No Nuclear War.
Peter Tosh was killed in his Jamaican home during a robbery. On the same year he died, the Jamaican government awarded him with the third highest honor for a Jamaican, the order of Merit.
