Before Kiss, he was a member of a local band, Rainbow and was part of Post War baby Boom and Uncle Joe. In 1972, he was introduced to Gene Simmon where he joined Wicked Lester, Simmon's band.

A few years later, Wicked Lester fell apart. Simmon and Paul Stanley then started a new band, Kiss which includes two other members namely Ace Frehley and Peter Criss.
