The acclaimed mezzo-soprano was born on January 10th 1953. The American sang her first solo when she was aged 8. She became interested in theater and also began voice lessons. Years later, she got a gig singing in lounge band Coxon's Army before moving to New York and pursuing her own dream. Her thrilling performance at Manhattan's “Catch A Rising Star,” got her a regular slot. While with Chrysallis Records, she recorded her first album in June and July 1979 that sold for millions. In addition to numerous Multi-Platinum albums, Platinum albums and Gold albums, she released top 40 singles including top 10 hits. The award-winning singer was among the most played singers in MTV's early days. Other than her singing career, the wife and mother of two is dedicated to charity. She has published her autobiography that details her early life and success in music.
