With an estimated net worth of $50 million, Steven Patrick Morrissey is an iconic singer and lyricist who became famous by being the lead singer of British alternative rock band The Smiths. The band was formed in Manchester in 1982 when Morrissey met guitarist Johnny Marr. The band achieved commercial success in both the UK and America when the band were signed to Rough Trade Records, releasing a string of hit singles including "This Charming Man", "Panic" and "Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now".
Morrissey became one of the most recognizable vocalists in rock music with his daunting voice, his distinctive live performances and bleak lyrics. Despite The Smiths breaking up in 1987, Morrissey still continued to make music by launching a solo career which spawned the album "Viva Hate" which reached number one in the UK Albums chart. As well as being one of the most influential figures in indie music, Morrissey is also a devout supporter of vegetarianism and animal rights.
