Born Mario Dewar Barrett on August 27, 1986 in Baltimore, Maryland, he is mononymously known as Mario as an R&B singer. He started his music career in 2004 after writing some of the best singles in the American music history. He has released four studio albums, including Mario (2002), Turning Point (2004), Go (2007), and D.N.A. (2009). His fifth album Dancing Shadows was released on October 5, 2018. By the end of 2000s decade, he was ranked #98 on the "Artist of the Decade" list by Billboard.
Aside from his career in music, Mario Barrett has appeared in a number of television shows and films, including Step Up (2006), Freedom Writers (2007) and Empire (2018). He recently starred in the live television production of the musical Rent.
