Kreviazuk was born on May 18, 1974 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. She plays piano and guitar. She is an alumna of Balmoral Hall School. Since December 1999, she has been married to Our Lady Peace lead singer Raine Maida. Together, the couple has three sons named Rowan Michael, Lucca Jon, and Salvador Daniel.

In June 1997, Kreviazuk's debut album, titled Under These Rocks and Stones, was released. Fueled by the songs "God Made Me", and "Surrounded" , the album sold more than 200,000 copies in the US alone. It became a CRIA-certified double platinum record holder.

Two years later, her sophomore album, Colour Moving and Still, was released. It featured the hit single "Before You" which she performed at the 2000 Juno Awards. The single won her the Best Female Artist and Best Adult/Pop Album awards. Like her debut album, Colour Moving and Still became a double-platinum record holder.

The success of her first two prompted the release of two more albums: What If It All Means Something, and Ghost Stories. They released in 2002 and 2006 respectively, and also earned  Gold records. In 2009, her fifth album, Plain Jane, was released.
