Sidney Poitier's net worth is $25 million. Poitier is an actor, film director, diplomat, and author. He has earned his wealth by acting and directing films. The American born Bahamian was breaking the color barrier in white Hollywood with his presence on the screen. In 1946 he made his Broadway debut in Lysistrata. No Way Out was his first film.
Poitier was the first black person to receive an Academy Award which was a great accomplishment at the time. He won for Best Actor for his role in the 1963 production in Lilies of the Filed as Homer Smith. Poitier earned huge parts in three films in 1967. Poitier has also directed a number of films including Uptown Saturday Night, A Piece of the Action, Stir Crazy and Let's Do It Again. Poitier has served since 1997 as the Bahamian ambassador to Japan. Barack Obama gave him the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2009.
