Shaggy is a Jamaican-born American reggae fusion singer and DJ who has an estimated net worth of $12 million. He was born Orville Richard Burrell on October 22, 1968 in Kingston, Surrey, Jamaica. He took singing courses in 1987 and he was discovered a year later while he was on the streets singing with friends. However, in the same year, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and obtained the MOS of 0811 (Field Artillery Cannon Crewman). He was part of the 10th Marine Regiment with a Field Artillery Battery during the Persian Gulf War. The highest rank he achieved was lance corporal, although he was reduced in rank twice. While in service at the Marine Corps, he perfected his signature singing voice and later adapted the stage name Shaggy from the character in the popular children's TV show Scooby-Doo.

When Shaggy decided to pursue his music career, his first single Oh Carolina in 1991 was already a success. It was a dancehall re-make of a ska hit by the Folkes Brothers, which appeared in the film Sliver. His other big hit includes Boombastic in 1995 and it was the theme tune of a popular Levi's commercial. In 2000, he released the album Hot Shot  and it was certified 6x platinum in the U.S.. It includes the hit singles It Wasn't Me and Angel.

Aside from singing, Shaggy also appeared in action comedy films Blast (2004) and Game Over, Man!
