She is widely respected for playing Carla Tortelli on Cheers, the sitcom. Rhea has got 4 Emmy awards for this role. Rhea was born on March 31st, 1948 in Brooklyn, NY, to Adele and Philip Perlman. Rhea started acting in 1972. She just received small roles for Gauguin and Hot Dogs though. However this year itself, she was seen in Up – An Uppity Revue of Westbeth Playwrights. Interestingly, she played here with Danny DeVito whom she would marry later. She started performing in the first half of the 1970s. She could be seen on many short films and TV films. The first time people began to notice her was after she portrayed Zena in “Taxi”, the television show. She played Louie DePalma’s girlfriend.

Rhea Perlman has been awarded the Emmy on four occasions – in 1984, 1985, 1986 and 1989. She has also received the nomination for the Golden Globe on six occasions. While she was performing in Cheers, Rhea got the nomination for Emmy each year, but it was only in 1992 that she won most of the nominations. Rhea appeared on the TV series of 2000 “How to Marry a Billionaire: A Christmas Tale”, where she played the part of Jacqueline Kennedy. She performed the part of Dr. Parella, the therapist in a movie of 2000 “Secret Cutting” that depicts the story of Dawn a young girl who injures herself.

Outside of acting, she has authored illustrated book series for children, Otto Undercover, whose six books up to May of 2012 are – Canyon Catastrophe, Born to Drive, Toxic Taffy Takeover, Water Balloon Doom, Brain Freeze, and Brink of the Ex-stink-tion.
