About Tupac Amaru Shakur

Tupac Shakur has an estimated net worth of $40 million. Also known as 2Pac and briefly as Makaveli was an American Rapper, actor, record producer, poet, screenwriter, activist and writer. As of 2010, he has sold more than 75 million albums around the world which makes him one of the best-selling music artists. He was ranked by MTV as the number one on their list of The Greatest MCs of All Time. He was the 86th Greatest Artist of All Times according to the Rolling Stone. Tupac's double disc album, All Eyez on Me, is one of the best-selling hip hop albums of all time.

Tupac Amaru Shakur was officially born Lesane Parish Crooks on June 16, 1971 in East Harlem, Manhattan, New York City, New York. He was named after Tupac Amaru, an 18th-century South American revolutionary who was executed after leading an indigenous uprising against Spanish rule. He began his music career as a roadie, backup dancer, and MC for Digital Underground, an alternative hip hop group. He eventually went on as a solo artist.

Also known by his stage name 2pac and briefly Makaveli, the themes of his songs are highly political and socially conscious. One reason is that his parents and some of his family are a member of the Black Panther Party, whose ideals were reflected in his songs. As an actor, he made his first solo film with Juice in 1992. He also co-starred with Janet Jackson in Poetic Justice in 1993.

Shakur was also involved in the so-called East Coast/West Coast hip hop rivalry during the latter part of his career. He has engaged in conflicts with other rappers, producers and record-label staff members, most notably with Notorious B.I.G. and his Bad Boy Records label.

On September 7, 1996, Tupac Shakur was shot multiple times in a drive-by-shooting in Las Vegas, Nevada. Six days later, he passed away, leaving behind a legacy of his lifestyle and music.
