DJ Clue was born Ernesto D. Shaw, Jr. on January 8, 1975, in Queens, New York, USA. Initially, he was interested in pursuing a career in rap music, however, he realized that he was more interested in the music production side of the music industry. This led him to release several mixtapes.

In 1990, he released his debut mixtape, The Professional: Part 1, which instantly became a big hit in the industry. The mixtape CD sold more than one million copies. Primarily, the mixtape contained music which was rarely heard of.

In the past, DJ Clue has collaborated with artists such as Lil' Mo, Mary J. Blige, JadakissSnoop Dogg, DMX and Nas.
