Andre Nickatina initially appeared in the rap scene of the Bay Area in the year 1993. He was a member of the Ill Mannered Posse (I.M.P.) group and went under the name Dre Dog. After the release of I.M.P.'s album Back in the Days, he eventually left to form a solo career. He was able to release a couple of albums under the stage name Dre Dog. These were I Hate You With a Passion in 1995 and The New Jim Jones in 1993. The first album eventually peaked at #3 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart.

Adams eventually changed his stage name to Andre Nickatina in the year 1997 and released the album Cocaine Raps under his own label and Raven in My Eyes under the Bay Area Independent Rap Label Dogday Records. These albums were not similar to the ones released under the name Dre Dog as they had deeper production values and the production quality combined keyboards and sequencers that whine and buzz with live instrumentation. He eventually founded his own record label and called it the Filmoe Coleman Records for the better as he feels that he is talented enough to do so not just for the sake of popularity.

Nickatina was able to release more albums soon afterward which are Daiquiri Factory: Cocaine Raps, Vol. 2, Tears of a Clown, These R the Tales and The Unreleased that eventually allowed him to gain notoriety in the underground rap scene of the West Coast.

In 2005, the album The Gift followed and the newspaper SF Weekly named Nickatina as the year's "Best Local Hip Hop Legend." He was also able to collaborate with Equipto or Ilych Sato for the studio album titled Horns and Halos. In the same year, Nickatina became the Best Underground Artist of the first annual Bay Area Raps Awards. With Mac Dre, he was able to release the album A Tale of Two Andres in 2008. Since they were close friends, the album eventually became a tribute to his memory. His self-titled 2013 album debuted at #12 on the Heatseekers Albums chart, #46 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and even appeared on the iTunes' main albums chart which made it his most successful album to date.
