Joel Silver is an American Film Producer with a net worth of $400 million. His wealth comes from Dark Castle Entertainment. He started his career in 1977 before becoming a professional producer.
He married Karyn Fields and together they have two children. Joel Silver is a flamboyant character in his movies and together with Jerry Bruckheimer, they became responsible for the reinvention of the action film genre during the 1980s. Joel was born in New York and attended the New York University Film School. He eventually worked at Lawrence Gordon Pictures and became the associate producer of the movie The Warriors. Afterward, he became the president of the Gordon Pictures' motion picture division. With Gordon, he was able to produce the films Commando, Streets of Fire, 48 Hrs., the first two films of the Die Hard franchise, the Lethal Weapon franchise as well as the Matri franchise of action films. Because of his past run-ins with the studio executives, he was not able to produce the sequel to the 48 Hrs and Die Hard with a Vengeance. He got parodied in some films and even spoofed himself in the film Who Framed Roger Rabbit through playing the role of a frustrated cartoon director in the opening sequence of the film. He was able to pioneer the practice of shooting action movies in Australia including the Matri films and reinvented the careers of Steven Seagal, Eddie Murphy, and Arnold Schwarzenegger.
